Meet Rob Nieves
Rob Nieves is a Puerto Rican poet and debut author from the inner city of Orlando whose work explores survival, fatherhood, faith, street memory, trauma, and redemption. Shaped by spoken-word cadence, rap-inflected lyricism, and unflinching personal testimony, his writing moves between confession and confrontation, tenderness and grit. His debut collection, Testimonies Through a Cracked Window, examines manhood, memory, loss, and spiritual reckoning through a voice committed to telling difficult truths plainly. Structured as a hip-hop album complete with a tracklist, stand-alone pivots, interludes, and a parental advisory on the cover, the collection began as a therapist’s suggestion to write an autobiography and became something else entirely. It was written for the people from that world so they know they are not alone, and for the people outside it so they finally understand it.
ABOUT THE BOOK
Testimonies Through a Cracked Window is a powerful collection of hip-hop poetry that captures one man's journey through pain, survival, faith, and redemption. Written by Rob Nieves, this deeply personal work invites readers into the moments that shaped his life, offering an unfiltered look at trauma, depression, loss, identity, and the struggle to find purpose in the midst of adversity.
Structured across nine thematic arches, the collection unfolds like a story of transformation. Each section explores a different chapter of the human experience, from internal battles and childhood wounds to spiritual awakening, love, fatherhood, and personal growth. Blending the rhythm and authenticity of hip-hop with the emotional depth of poetry, Rob creates a voice that is both raw and relatable.
More than a poetry collection, this book serves as a testimony to inner strength and the power of healing. It speaks to those who have felt broken, overlooked, misunderstood, or burdened by their past. Through honest reflection and hard-earned wisdom, Rob demonstrates that our circumstances do not have to define us and that redemption remains possible even in life's darkest moments.
This is a story of scars, determination, ownership, and hope. A reminder that healing begins when we dare to face our truth and keep moving forward.
